Cardiology

In partnership with the Veteran Administration Northern California Health Care System, the Heart, Lung, and Vascular Center at David Grant USAF Medical Center provides cardiology services to patients referred with diseases of the heart. This includes:
  • Active duty and retired military members
  • Family members ages 18 and older
  • VA patients referred or admitted to DGMC
The cardiology clinic professional staff includes board certified or board eligible physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants subspecializing in:
  • General Cardiology
  • Interventional Cardiology
  • Nuclear Cardiology
  • Cardiovascular CT
  • Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices
The staff also includes nurses and technicians with advanced training in rhythm monitoring, stress testing, echocardiography, interventional cardiac and vascular procedures, cardiac electronic devices/pacemakers/defibrillators, clinical pharmacists specializing in the management of anticoagulation/metabolic disorders, and an administrative support team.
 
Disease processes managed by our clinic include (but is not limited to):
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Arrhythmias
  • Valvular heart disease
  • Congestive heart failure and cardiomyopathies
Cardiology clinic capabilities and services include:
  • Diagnostic coronary angiography and cardiac catheterization
  • Percutaneous coronary intervention
  • Implantation of temporary mechanical circulatory support devices in critically ill patients
  • Pacemaker, defibrillator, cardiac resynchronization therapy, and loop recorder implantation
  • Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography
  • Stress testing to include exercise ECG, stress myocardial perfusion imaging, and stress echocardiography
  • Cardiac CT imaging
  • Cardiac MRI
Services that are not routinely offered include ventricular assist devices, heart and lung transplants, valve replacements, electrophysiology procedures (electrophysiology mapping studies, ablations, pacemaker/defibrillator device explanation), endomyocardial biopsy, congenital heart surgery
 
New Patient Referral Information: Referrals must come from primary care, family practice, internal medicine, flight medicine, the emergency department, a surgeon or anesthesiologist.

Patients not enrolled in TRICARE Prime will be seen with a referral from primary care, family practice or internal medicine. Patients from select remote locations may be partially evaluated via telemedicine to avoid travel expenses and to expedite the evaluation.
 
Patient Instructions: Patients should arrive at least 15 minutes before their appointment. Patients scheduled for cardiac stress testing or imaging procedures should not eat at least four hours before their appointment.
  
Scheduling Appointments: Consult Management will book the initial appointment. The referring physician should book appointments for patients who need to be seen within 72 hours by calling the on-call cardiologist or call the Admissions Call Center at 707-423-2300, DSN 799-2300
